San Francisco, 8/31/2009 - VMworld booth #1315 - Reflex Systems, the pioneer in virtualization management, security and compliance today announced the availability of Reflex VMC version 2.0 with significant enhancements including expanded policy based management, software asset management, role-based access control, and Cloud computing enablement features.
vTrust, Reflex VMC's VMsafe certified policy enforcement technology, has been expanded in version 2.0 to include infrastructure and compliance policy settings in addition to network policy features that were already built-in. With Infrastructure Policy settings, criteria such as configuration changes, storage, memory, and CPU thresholds can be used to set policies. These policies can then be used to provision VMs, allocate resources, and take action based on security events. Automation-based policies, written to respond to infrastructure events, can also be configured to segment VMs into specific groups or zones, classify them, and then be used to define policies.
Reflex VMC also now features virtual software asset management features which can track and monitor installed applications on each virtual machine without the need to use an agent or system scanning. This provides vital information about the software installed on VMs including the version, install date, patch status, and more.
Role-based access control functionality has also been added to Reflex VMC to define and control user access levels of VMs and other virtual infrastructure. Adminstrators can assign varying levels of access based on infrastructure and security policies managed by Reflex VMC. This feature enables organizations to apply business management processes to fully leverage virtual infrastructure.
"The customer-driven enhancements we have made to Reflex VMC reflect real-world requirements for managing and securing virtual infrastructures," said Pete Privateer, president and CEO of Reflex Systems. "VMC v2 enables organizations to realize the full potential of virtualization by achieving levels of data center automation that were simply not possible in a physical environment. By dynamically managing virtual environments and automatically enforcing compliance with IT policies and government mandates, customers can reduce their management costs by as much as 50%".
"Reflex continues to be an innovator in integrated virtualization management and security offerings" said Barb Goldworm, founder, president, and chief analyst of FOCUS. "Our recent research shows that IT organizations are making huge strides in expanding virtualization to the next set of servers and applications, and we believe that strong security and policy management will be critical success factors in that growth. Reflex has been a leader in integrating security and network management, and their new asset management and policy enforcement capabilities, along with support for VMsafe, continue to build on that leadership."
Cloud enablement features are also now available for Reflex VMC with the addition of an optional Cloud API. The new API enables service providers and large enterprises to provision and manage security and compliance per tenant in a cloud environment without the dependencies on external hardware. Cloud providers and customers are benefited with a seamless and visible environment, making security, governance, risk-management and compliance activity fully transparent.
Support for the Cisco Nexus 1000V series of virtual switches is also new in this release.
